At the 4th Annual ASBA Barn Burner
June 14, 2014 - Olds Cow Palace
This year the ASBA will be hosting our 4th Annual Barn Burner. As an Association we want to provide our members the opportunity to showcase their sheep in a relaxed and comfortable environment.
What we need from the ASBA Member: A commitment of quality purebred rams ewes, market lambs and commercial replacement breeding stock.
What we will offer you, the ASBA Member: A venue to display and conduct business for your purebred sheep operation in a one day format. ASBA will also work to develop a format that will enable sheep industry enthusiasts to view what you have to offer by delivering a quality action packed event.
Schedule:
June 13, 2014 - 6pm Barn open for arrival of sheep.
-10pm all sheep exhibits to be in place.
June 14, 2014 - 7:30am Barn open for exhibitors
- 9am Barn open for spectators.
- 10am Ram Show
- 12pm Free Lunch for everyone.
- 2pm Market lamb show
- 4:30pm Sheep may be released from building.
- 6pm Barn Closed
Entry Information:
Entry fee will be $150 plus GST for two 8’ X 8’ pens. The maximum number of animals per 8’x8’ pen is 4. We can also split a pen into two 4' X 8' pens if desired at no additional charge. The maximum number of animals per 4’x8’ pen is 2.
The cost for each additional 8’x8’ pen will be $75, plus GST.
To be able to show in the ram show the exhibitor must have a breeder display pen and be a member of the A.S.B.A
The entry fee for the market lamb show is $10.00 and that will entitle the exhibitor to a 4'x4' pen.
All market lambs must be either ewe lambs or weathers.
Displays of purebred rams & ewes and commercial replacement ewes are allowed.
No crossbred or commercial rams will be permitted to be displayed.
All entries must be received by ASBA by June 1, 2014 along with payment of entry fee
Rules & Conditions:
- All exhibitors in the breed display and ram show must be current members of the ASBA in good standing.
- Any negotiations between exhibitors and spectators is considered to be a private treaty arrangement between the two individuals involved and the ASBA assumes no liability and provides no guarantees.
- All rams must be registered or eligible for registration by the CSBA or by another breed association if not included under the CSBA umbrella. Per the regulations governing CSBA all sheep eligible for registration MUST be either tattooed or identified by “matching CSIP eartags by 100 days of age”; this requirement will be strictly enforced.
- Any animal showing signs of communicable disease or ked will be asked to leave the event.
- There will be no official culling or selection process however ASBA reserves the right to deny animals entry to the event that do not meet purebred standards.
- Water must be available to sheep at all times.
- No animals may leave the event prior to 4:30 pm June 14, 2014 unless special permission is granted from the event committee.
Additional notes:
- Breeders pens will be set up with an 8 foot buffer space between breeding units to reduce sheep to sheep contact over / through the pens.
- Presentation of the animals is up to the breeder but must be clean and presentable - natural fleece / slick shorn / washed & trimmed etc.
- Please contact event committee with questions regarding pen orientation
- All animals must bear CSIP Tags.
- Each exhibitor is allowed to show as many as they wish in each class. No animal may be shown in more than one class.
- All attendants showing sheep must be neatly dressed.
- Committee reserves the right to correct any error or make any alterations to the regulations.
Ram and Market Lamb Show:
Class 1- Terminal Sires -2013 and 2014 rams will be allowed. (i.e.: Suffolk, Hampshire, Charollais, Canadian Arcott, and Texel).
Class 2- Maternal Sires -2013 and 2014 rams will be allowed (i.e.: Dorset, North Country).
Class 3-Market lamb: all weights will be shown together. Age is to be verified as under 12 months of age.
Prize money:
Ram classes: 1st place $150.00 2nd place $50.00
Market Lamb: Champion $600.00
Reserve Champion $300.00
3rd $25.00
4th $25.00
