4th Annual Contest
This year marks our 4th anniversary of the ASBA Youth Purebred Sheep Purchase Incentive!
Breeders aged 21 years and younger, residing in Alberta are encouraged to enter the contest. ASBA is offering $500 towards the purchase of a registered purebred animal in 2025 through the All Canada Classic, the ASBA Online Purebred Sheep Sale, production sales or private treaty.
Entries will be open from March 1st - April 15th, 2025. Winner will be announced at the end of April.
We have been so impressed with the entries that have come in over the years and now it's time for our new contest. This year is going to require our youth producers to start thinking about their own production systems.
We are going to ask that you show some of your creativity as well as your technical skills. The concept of this entry will require you to provide us with a video showcasing a drawing of your plan for a "Dream Sheep Facility" Drawing.
The video can describe:
a little bit about yourself
what your current production system consists of, and looks like (a choice to provide a bit of a tour of your current facility)
your drawing of your plan for your "dream sheep facility"
Your plan can share how it differs from your current facility, how it will improve your production and what you hope for the future.
This video can range from 30 seconds to 5 minutes. Although we are putting a maximum of 5 minutes to your video, the length definitely is not relevant to the quality of your entry. We look forward to hearing about your ideas and thoughts for your dream sheep facility.
We look forward to hearing your story!
Ready to enter your video?
Please click on the link blelow to upload your video for the contest. You do not need a Dropbox account to submit your video.

This year, contestants were asked to provide the importance and value of purebred animals. The board was very impressed with all of the entries and had an extremely hard time choosing one winner. All of the applications were complete, well written and with a good understanding of purebred registered animals.
The board made a decision to do a random draw by placing all of the names in a hat and to pick a winner. Congratulations to Hailey for winning the draw!

This year marked the first time the Alberta Sheep Breeders Association created a unique opportunity for young Alberta sheep breeders to purchase a registered purebred sheep. ASBA asked Alberta junior producers to submit a "Top 10" list in which they expressed why they would benefit from obtaining a purebred sheep. The board of directors were more than thrilled with the submissions from young sheep breeders from across Alberta. Candidates ranged from 3 years to 18 years old and provided a wide variety of reasons why they would love to be considered for this opportunity.
The board of directors received 24 applications expressing their interest and Involvement within the sheep industry. Congratulations to Kate Grimmeyer who was the successful recipient of this year's Youth Purebred Sheep Incentive.
Honorable mention goes to Hunter Farr and Ayden Baker who also provided outstanding applications and the ASBA board would like to award them with a complimentary CSBA membership for the year.
We also want to congratulate all of the applicants for taking the time and showing interest in purebred registered animals. The board wishes them all success in the industry as they all did a fantastic job in providing insight to our future sheep producers!
